May 9th, 2008
We can hardly breathe. It’s here. It’s finally happening. Sex and the City: The Movie! Could we possibly be any more excited? The answer to that would be “no.” A friend tipped us off to the online trailer last week, and we have been watching it on repeat ever since. We get shivers every single time. Seriously.
This level of obsession may seem a bit unhealthy, but how can we help it? We feel like we actually know these characters because we watched each episode so many times. We cried for Aidan, cheered for the return of Mr. Big, and endlessly scrutinized each wardrobe change.
We plan to be there opening night, in our Christian Louboutins, Fendi baguette in hand, cheering on our four favorite (fictional) ladies. And don’t forget the Cosmopolitans!
p.s. In the mood to be pampered? The reader who tells the most local guy friends about www.SeattlePicksforMen.com and cc's picks@seattlepicks.com will win a Free One-Night Stay at the gorgeous and decadent Hotel Monaco! Who needs New York? Louboutins look just as good in Sea-town. |

More Coffee, Please!
We have a substantial need for caffeine, which makes living in Seattle a very good thing. Big chains and little drive-thrus on every corner make us very happy. But sometimes, it’s not just about the coffee. Sometimes, it’s about food, too. At these times, the regular places can be a little disappointing.
That’s when we head to Fresh Flours, a wonderful spot in Phinney Ridge, for good coffee and good food. With quiches this light and croissants this flaky, we can tell with the first bite that everything is made fresh daily in their own kitchen. Their sweets don’t disappoint, either. We got busy stuffing our faces with the traditional peanut-butter cookie and the unusual pumpkin-pecan-white-chocolate muffin. Drool.
And of course, the coffee. Love the coffee! Anywhere we can find café au lait already on the menu and made to our exacting standards is aces in our book. Even without a well-known name or a drive-through, Fresh Flours deserves a place with the big boys of Seattle coffee (and bakeries).

The Lift that Keeps on Giving
While we have no problem dropping a few hundred bucks on a pair of Jimmy Choos, we have never been prone to splurge on workout gear. Our running shoes look suspiciously like the original Air Jordans circa 1984, and we would guess our sports bras were two sizes too small if we could still read the tags. Moreover, we have never paid for a gym membership, insisting that the rainy Seattle weather doesn’t deter us from running. (It does.)
That’s why we recently jumped at the chance for an indoor personal training session. We showed up at Lift Personal Training Studio in Magnolia and huffed and puffed through a rigorous workout that targeted the dreaded muffin top and bingo arms. The trainer even gave us routines to do at home, with minimal equipment.
We have since begun our new regime at home, but noticed something wasn’t quite right—we missed our trainer’s unwavering enthusiasm and encouragement. New philosophy: If we think of our trainer as the Jimmy Choo of personal training, we can totally justify adding some Lift to our budget.

Delicious and Light
Every day, our lives get more chaotic. We run every which way to balance all of the responsibilities: work, kids, and of course, cosmetic upkeep. And why is it that all the burdens of life seem to end up on our shoulders—one shoulder in particular? Our purses are overstuffed, and now with the new trend of decorative hardware such as chains and tassels, we swear they must weigh 15 pounds.
The first step to reviving that overworked shoulder is to streamline our bags. For no nonsense, and simple but elegant styles, we don’t have to look any further than local handmade handbags by Red Delicious. And the best part—they are entirely custom! Pick your style and your fabrics. Add features such as pockets and a matching coin purse.
We are officially putting our fifteen-pound purses on a diet with a visit to Red Delicious, which conveniently operates a booth at the Pike Place Market. Now, if we can just find a way to lighten the load of our schedules, we’ll be golden.

The Una and Only
We love four-inch stilettos, embellished mini-dresses and flouncy full-skirts made of pink taffeta, but sometimes we crave something that is not only cute and fanciful, but comfortable. Not an easy need to satisfy—until we found Una, a line of locally handmade, gloriously soft and prettily drapey organic-cotton pieces.
We adore the Phoebe Tunic—fancy enough for a night out, but wonderfully simple and comfy at the same time. What else do you need?

A Dream Come True
We wish we were more artistic, but if you saw the things that we drew during a game of Pictionary, you would laugh. So instead, we choose to be artistic through association, and some of our best finds come from Little Paper Planes, a fab website with art prints, jewelry, bags, and art books by more than 75 different artists.
We will definitely wear these creative hand-worked leafy brass earrings by We Dream In Colour to the next gallery opening!

Lovely Lips
We can never get enough lip gloss. Seriously, the makeup pouch in our purse is overflowing with every shade and kind of gloss imaginable. However, these days, there are more lip glosses from Seattle-based cosmetics company The Makeup Project in there than anything else. We have one of every color from their debut Immaculate collection.
Infused with Vitamin E and lemon-cake scented, we are total converts and are ready to proudly admit our addiction to shiny lips.
