March 28th, 2008
Last weekend we braved spring showers to check out the cherry blossoms in the Quad at UW. But as we crossed the slick red bricks of Red Square, we had a serious flashback to our most embarrassing moment—ever.
It was a rainy day during sophomore year of college, and we were rushing from one class to the next. Racing down the stone steps from Red Square in our new high-heeled brown leather boots (with hundreds of other students), we slipped and began to fall forward in what seemed like slow motion. Without realizing it, we actually said out loud, as our knees neared the cement, “Heeerre weee goooo…” BAM. Sliding on our knees down the steps, rear-end high in the air, messenger bag hanging around our neck, with the people behind trying not to fall over us. Our umbrella flew off into the crowd and we were soaked, mortified, and bruised—and we are not just talking about our knees.
Brushing ourselves off, we retrieved our umbrella and made our way to class with the tiny shred of dignity we had left—swearing to never wear those boots again.
p.s.: Because we love you so dearly, forward this issue of Seattle Picks to 5 friends and CC picks@seattlepicks.com. You could win a $50 Gift Certificate to Lemon Meringue Boutique! You know, in case you have a bruised ego that needs mending or something. |

Work and Play
We all know the old adage that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, or in our case Jill a dull girl. So to combat this while still successfully climbing the proverbial ladder, we’ve decided to focus a lot of attention on not only doing a great job, but looking fantastic while doing it. It lets us combine our enthusiasm for shopping (some might call it a disorder) with our interest in projecting a persona of the successful business woman we strive to be.
Ella Mon is just the place to do this. With well-made pieces and nicely priced basics (from San Francisco-based designer ISDA & Co to our favorite chic shirt-dress and spring trench by French-designed IKKS and Cop.copine), you’ll have no problem putting together the perfect ensemble to rise to the top. We also adore the spring dresses from Bianca Nero, in a variety of styles and bright colors; a must on our list for summer weddings.
Even if you’re afraid of heights, we’re certain you’ll find your “power suit” here.

Amazing Maison
We have an embarrassing habit of naming all of our favorite inanimate objects—from our first teddy bear, Waldo, to Frosty, our white Toyota Corolla. The newest addition to the clan is our first major furniture purchase—a beautiful dining room table that we have dubbed Hogany as an ode to its dark wood and our over-zealous eating habits. Forget the hand-me-down couches from our college era!
And when it comes to our new outlook on interior design, Maison Luxe is the boutique that embodies all that we aspire to be. They have a beautiful collection of new and vintage finds like a mirrored Hollywood side table and a large collection of oversized conch shells. They also dream up whimsical pairings, from pink couches with zebra pillows to antique mirrors against a backdrop of exposed brick.
With Maison Luxe as our muse, we are finally making the transition from the ramshackle dorm-room look to a more refined style. This way, at least we can appear to act our age—we just won’t tell anyone about Cherry the red chair.

Slice of Heaven
Since spring’s arrival, we’ve been busy. Between spring cleaning, spring shopping and changing those pesky clocks, we’re worn out. Who knew that there would be so much work involved in rearranging our wardrobe and chasing dust bunnies? After all that toil and trouble, we deserve a treat for all our hard work.
As a reward, we indulged in a trip to Tangerine Spa, and our visit was as sweet and refreshing as the name suggests. We’re certain the Uspa Facial (named for the line of Australian botanical products used) was the most delicious 90 minutes we’ve had in a long time. The treatment begins with a foot soak and scrub, and includes a back massage in addition to traditional facial treatments. As an added bonus, we got to pick our own background music from a selection of CDs—sweet!
If you’re like us—ready to usher in spring fresh-faced and rejuvenated—we highly recommend a visit to this cozy spa, located inside Wallingford’s Salon Metro.

Sweet Simplicity
We are firm believers that sometimes the simpler something is, the better. This is especially true when it comes to the lotions that we use on our skin, and the organic Jasmine and Neroli body lotion from kō denmark is the perfect example.
Free from any artificial fragrances and colors, parabens or animal ingredients, this lotion not only smells divine, but it makes our skin buttery soft. To put it simply, we think it might be love!
