September 19th, 2008
This past week we took a huge step in our adult lives—we moved in with our boyfriend. This is the first time we’ve lived with a significant other, and we are already wondering what we’ve gotten ourselves into. Now, we realize that our motley collection of used, inherited, and cheap Swedish furniture is nothing to brag about, but there are a few items of his that we refuse to let cross the threshold into our new apartment.
Our man seems to think he is going bring his plastic Spuds Mackenzie Bud Light lamp to use in our new home together. Seriously, folks? Seriously?!? This is not a fraternity house and we are not in college anymore. However, we appear to be at an impasse because he is dead set on using it, and we are adamant that it goes in the dumpster. We even tried bargaining—getting rid of something of ours that he isn’t fond of—but no dice. It’s a total stand-off and no one is budging. So as you can see, we are definitely starting things in our new place out on the right foot. Updates next week on who won the battle. Prediction: We did.
For all our complaining, we do love our men, so tell 5 of your guy friends about www.SeattlePicksforMen.com and CC picks@seattlepicks.com, and you could win a Great Skin Facial from Aviva Holistic Skin Spa! |

Uniquely You-ropean
When we graduated from college and moved into our first adult apartments, every room looked as if we had bought out the catalog. From cubed bookshelves to the modern bed frame, almost everything came from a certain giant blue and yellow warehouse, which, besides furniture, also happens to sell tasty meatballs.
Although a few items from our college days are still hiding in the corner, we are proud to announce that we have found a new Scandinavian furniture retailer where everything is deliciously stylish and no assembly is required. Big girl furniture, here we come! From the first step in the door, Swedish Heirlooms is a refreshingly different furniture shopping experience. As evidenced by the uncluttered collection of chairs, tables, and sideboards, delicate chandeliers and unique knickknacks, this small boutique boasts exquisite taste.
Just one look and our imaginations ran wild with thoughts of redesigned rooms—all with pieces of Swedish flair.
With our gradual décor makeover, we hope our homes will start speaking to our tastes. Perhaps even with a European accent…

Queen of Hearts
We don’t like to spend time thinking about the big “R” word that has been on everyone’s lips this summer, but we are definitely feeling the pressure on our Louis Vuitton checkbook. However, that could just as easily be attributed to the end of summer sales we have been relentlessly hitting. In any case, buying too many shoes this summer led to having to forgo a destination vacation.
No worries—we had a fabulous staycation (our favorite new word, by the way) at the MarQueen Hotel on Queen Anne. A perfectly lovely in-city escape, this month marks the hotel’s 10-year anniversary. The building, which was built in 1918, won our hearts with its terrazzo floors, marble accents and high ceilings. All the rooms have kitchens and some even have ovens—perfect for those of us who bought too many shoes to afford dining out. And with a breakfast voucher for Café Ladro, we headed around the corner for pastries and a perfectly-pulled latte before visiting Jill Bucy Skincare Spa in the hotel for a luxurious facial.
It was an ideal way to get a mini-vacation. And we still have enough left over for those boots we have been eyeing for winter.

Ocho is Enough
We are not dainty salad eaters. When we go out we’d like to order everything on the menu. Luckily, we have a friend who shares our love of food (so we share) but even experiencing two taste sensations in one evening leaves us wanting more.
Luckily, Ocho, the heart and soul of Spanish tapas in the heart of Ballard, fits the bill (and the wallet). We can order small plates to our hearts’ content off the hand-written chalkboard menu and still have money left over for some lovely drinks to wash it all down. We tried some wonderful bites, each a perfect balance of salt and sweet. Chorizo con limon—topped with a perfectly fried egg—rocked the Casbah, and don’t get us started on Pan con chocolate, an amazing combination of chocolate, truffle oil and Flor de Sal on toast.
Get there early to grab a seat in this diminutive den of Spanish delights. And don’t miss out on La Carolina—blue cheese-stuffed dates wrapped in pancetta with a smooth balsamic reduction. We might just eat them all if we get there first.

A Fashionable Hole-in-One
We recently promised our man that we’d start making more of an effort to take part in the things that he enjoys. Since we detest football, that left golf—at least we could get a new outfit out of it.
Lucky for us, Shi Golf, a new collection from Kelly Sue, can be found at Mapel. It is all about fashion-forward, golf-appropriate attire. We loved the deep v-neck sweater which we’ll pair with the plaid Aberdeen skirt. Even if we suck, at least we will look good doing it!

Truly One of a Kind
We are constantly on the hunt for unique pieces of jewelry that will get us noticed for our playful sense of style and great eye for accessorizing. This necklace from Michelle Lenae fits that bill perfectly.
Made with two chains—one in sterling silver, one in 14-karat gold—and a round citrine stone, it’s both cutting-edge and romantic at the same time. Plus, we love the unique floral pattern cut in the stone. We predict we will get many, many compliments on this piece. Score!

Rock Me Gently
We firmly believe that every girl has a fantasy of making out with a rockstar at some point in their lives. We personally dream of Steven Tyler from Aerosmith—there is something so mysteriously sexy about that man!
For those of us who will never get to make fantasies come to life, we’ll just indulge in the Rock Star perfume from Rich Hippie. Chemical free and 100% natural, with scents of tropical flowers and Madagascan vanilla bean, its sensuous and racy—just like your chosen rock star.
