February 13th 2009
Everyone one knows that the key to making a relationship work is keeping things interesting, exciting and new. So a few weeks ago, on a particularly quiet Friday evening, we grabbed our guy and decided to do something fun and spontaneous.
The destination: Target. The mission: we each had ten dollars and twenty minutes to buy each other a present. After synchronizing our watches, we were off. We must have looked like shoplifters, the way we were peering around corners and concealing our finds —just in case we ran into our guy, we didn’t want the surprise to be ruined—but it was totes exciting. The hardest part was choosing between something funny (a red sparkly man-thong for Valentine’s Day or a t-shirt that read: 2Hot4U) and something he would really want (a football-shaped bowl for chips that played the NFL theme song).
Where's the love? Right here! Forward this issue to 5 friends and CC picks@seattlepicks.com... two lucky winners will receive a copy of Mariah Carey's "Ballads" CD + a sample size of her new perfume, packaged in a gift box! |

Goody Goody
Like every other fashionista out there, we have been known to covet a Gucci bag (or two or three) and to periodically drool over the newest editions. But, we’ll be the first to admit, we flinched a little when we received our invite to the Gucci grand opening party. What’s up, recession?! Well, it certainly didn’t stop us from attending; we just chose to leave our wallets at home in order to avoid temptation.
If you do happen to be in the market for something fancy (and oh-so-pretty), we highly suggest checking out the Italian-made goodies which are all highly covetable. Pretending that price wasn’t an issue, we ogled the fine leather items with the signature horse bit buckles, the boots, and of course, the diamond-encrusted watches. And don’t think we missed the bags—we even found one with a Gucci pug on it—and it took all our willpower not to bring it home to our little puggie.
It was all glitz and glamour, but our favorite item came in the form of crystal and leather stilettos. Ahh, a girl can dream…

On the Sunny Side of the Street
We’ve been to Rodeo Drive and it was fun to trot around with our bags sashaying in the wind, and our heels clicking on the hot pavement, but we’re Seattle girls at heart. So what’s a girl living in the Pacific “Coldwest” to do when “the Drive” is 1,000 miles away? We go to Joy Street.
Dramatic black Lucite chandeliers and abstract statues draped with chunky metal jewelry made us feel like we were walking into the Hollywood home of Sharon Osborne—minus the gargoyles. Joy Street embodies both the edgy rock-and-roller and casual cowboy cultures of California, featuring hot Hollywood trends like ornamental crucifixes, rosaries and embroidered family crests to the quintessential Cali staples—caramel leather cowboy boots, stone-washed jeans and simple cotton Ts.
From Santa Monica Boulevard to Beverly Hills, Joy Street brings a touch of inspiration and glamour to our neck of the woods.

Where Everybody Knows Your Name
Who doesn’t want to be a regular? You know, one of those special girls that knows everyone in the restaurant and gets special treatment? But it’s tough enough to find the time (and let’s be frank, the moolah) to go out these days, and harder still to haunt the same spot often enough to gain elite status.
Lucky for us (and you) we found Divine in Maple Leaf where we felt like VIPs on our very first visit. We were greeted at the door so warmly; we knew we’d chosen well. Divine is all about modern Greek food—lots of Northwest flavors, Greek-inspired dishes and just plain yumminess. We had a fabulous time and ate and drank well into the night. In fact, we made it out to the lobby but just couldn’t stop gabbing.
Did they kick us out at this late hour? Nope, they offered us wine! Now that is what being a regular is all about!

A Vision of Love
It’s hard not to love Mariah Carey—in all her midriff-baring, high-octave glory. We totally sing along in the car—convinced that we sound just like her.
So when we found My Mariah Ballad, a site that lets you send a Valentine e-card of yourself singing “Dreamlover” or “Hero” (or you can leave it to the pro if your singing skills aren’t up to par), we sent one to everyone we knew. Pretty sure our own recording deal is on the way.

Heavenly Bodies
We’re bored to death with the same old lingerie selection found out the local department stores and at a certain, ahem, secretive sister’s storefront. But just when we were about to throw undies to the wind, we discovered The Lake and Stars.
This chic online purveyor stocks a heavenly assortment of beautiful underpinnings that effortlessly exude an ethereal-beauty-meets-modern-luxe vibe that is nothing short of stunning. We’ll take two of everything please (hint, hint, honey).

Kiss Kiss
From the moment you locked eyes, your heart kept time with his. The freckles in your eyes were mirror images (thanks, Postal Serv).
Erm, or it was happy hour and you were three drinks deep. Whatevs! Love knows no limits or boundaries. And why not celebrate love and all that cutesy stuff with a cool print from this rando cool blog called Ninja vs Penguin? And don’t miss their short films and productions, too.
