  SEATTLE PICKS
life + style to you: every Friday
February 27th, 2009

So, we finally did it. We gave in to the peer pressure and joined yet another social-networking site. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Seattle Picks now has a Twitter account. We are Twits! (Hmm…that doesn’t sound quite right). We thought it was about time considering MySpace is so over and since, let’s be honest, our favorite part of Facebook is the status updates. A little stalkerish? Perhaps, but we prefer to think of it as keeping up to date on the state of things. In any case, why not join a site that is nothing but status updates? Plus, we secretly enjoy trying to fit everything we want to say into 140 characters.

If you are on Twitter, make sure to follow us – seattlepicksgal. We would love to keep up to date on what’s going on with you as well! Plus, we always have secret sale tips and event news that you won’t find here.

p.s. The giveaway madness to celebrate our upcoming 100th Issue continues! Forward Seattle Picks to 5 of your friends and CC picks@SeattlePicks.com, and you could win a $25 gift card to Full Throttle Bottles or a $40 gift certificate to The Bathery!

Lost and Found

Lately we’ve noticed the rooms in our house are a little, shall we say, blah. We don’t know what it is, or isn’t, but we know it’s not quite right yet. We’ve rearranged the furniture in each room, moved furniture between rooms, and even consulted our Feng Shui book to see if our house’s Qi was off.

We finally decided the problem wasn’t what we owned, it was that we were missing something… we had lost that je ne sais quoi. So we went on a hunt for some pieces to bring the “old us” and the “new us” together. And we found just the thing (okay, things) at Momo. Besides carrying the sweetest lines of clothing from Cop Copine and Prarie Underground, they have tons of found objects and new pieces. We loved the old jailers and railroad keys (we plan to make a mobile), and the delicate Sweet Petula bath and body products. Our bestie liked the Morrocan tea glasses, Eastern-inspired throw pillows, and some Japanese note cards.

We set off for home feeling satisfied we’d found what we’d lost—our eclectic selves!

Wine 101

We are highly skilled when it comes to matching. Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress? Match with oversized sunglasses and gladiator sandals—of course. Tweed pants? Silk shirt and capelet—natch. Rosemary-encrusted lamb for that upcoming dinner party? Errr ... uh ... hmmm ...

This is where Jack Cellars has to step in and help us out. With their expertise we’re sure to hit all the right notes with our food and wine pairings as well as our fabulous couture. They hand-select (and taste—the lucky dogs) all the wine available in the shop. And don’t worry, there are many value bottles available, (read: awesome wine + yummy price) which we love. With free weekly tastings and fabulous (non-snooty) service we are set for all of our quaffing occasions. Recently, we attended a tasting and sampled five great pours from the top ten Jack sellers of 2008. We learned loads about wine and now we know that a Rhone-style blend (from California especially) will be perfect with our lamb.

Dinner party patrons—hold on to your socks.

Zany ZinZanni

We always wanted to go to a real old-timey circus as kids, but sadly, never got the chance. We imagined the dancing elephants, tigers jumping through hoops, the bearded lady… and of course, eating peanuts under the big top while watching all the madness unfold. We still have that desire to be entertained and dazzled with the chaos of the circus, but our tastes have matured a bit.

Now, we are all about Teatro ZinZanni—a three-hour whirlwind of cirque, comedy, cabaret and live music—all served up with a five-course meal designed by Tom Douglas. The fast-paced action and chaos dazzles and the big night out is made complete with aerialists, comics and crooners. It’s colorful, it’s funny—it’s the classier version of the old-timey circus.

The new show, "Under the Gypsy Moon," runs through June 21 with $25 off select performances on March 5 and 12. Plus, mention Seattle Picks at the ZinZanni boutique when you go, and receive 20% off any item. We’ve never been more thoroughly entertained!

Chandy Notes

Our penchant for chandies started the minute we realized we liked, umm, the finer things. So decadent! So sparkly. Reminiscent of luxury, jewels, royalty, etc.  Coincidentally, it was around the same time we became set on marrying Prince William (approx. 1996).

So of course we loved this adorable stationery. Personalize a set with your name, choose a color, and start penning your true and destined love! Dear Wills…

Buh-Bye Winter Skin

The winter is more foe than friend when it comes to our skin, so naturally we’re always on the lookout for something new and fab to soothe our savage beast. Currently our hearts belong to Margarita Bloom.

This kitschy bath and body haven is loaded with an array of luxurious products, perfect for pampering winter-ravaged skin, and with soaps shaped like cupcakes and body scrubs modeled after martinis, this little shop is fun to boot!

That's a Wrap

Sometimes we long to move somewhere warm. A place where it's sunny most of the time and we have to apply sunscreen daily and drink iced tea to stay cool. But then we wouldn't get to snuggle up in amazing scarves like those from Yokoo every day.

We’ve had Yokoo’s wonderful creations bookmarked since summer, and once it was cold enough to wear a scarf without looking like a complete looney, we sprung. We kind of hope it stays chilly a little longer!
