Happy Anniversary to us! We’re not quite sure how we got here so fast, but here we are—it’s our 100th issue! (And yet, we feel like we just started.)

Honestly, we love bringing Seattle Picks to you each and every week. We take pride in knowing about all the greatest sales and best trunk shows. We delight in searching out the best new boutiques, yummiest cocktails, and best shopping finds on the internet. We are proud to support local businesses and promote independent designers and boutiques. And we hope you will continue to help us grow and expand, so that in no time at all we can celebrate our 200th issue together. There is so much in Seattle to cover… we are going to need a lifetime to get all of it to you… so shop on, dearest readers!

p.s. As a celebration of our 100th issue, there are three AH-MAY-ZING giveaways this week… forward Seattle Picks to 5 or more friends and CC picks@SeattlePicks.com, and you could win a Tory Burch Makeup Bag from Posh On Main, one of two Carlo coin purses from Rocco e Dante, or a one-night stay at the Hotel Monaco! How much do you love us?

Memory Lane

Since winter may be here for another thousand weeks (thanks a lot, Puxatawney Phil) we’ve been purging forgotten drawers and boxes to keep busy. We’ve taken so many trips down memory lane, we’re thinking about buying a house there. We came across old elementary school pictures, art projects, and favorite stuffed animals we just couldn’t give away.

This weekend, we finally faced the weather for some much-needed window shopping in preparation for spring (What? We can’t be optimists??) and came upon the reincarnation of our childhood. Two Owls is this mesmerizing little shop filled to the brim with organic and sustainable toys that whisper, “Take me home, I won’t tell.” Between the stories from local authors like Nikki McClure, and the recycled fabric stuffed animals from ZID ZID, we had a hard time not buying the whole store—let alone justifying why we were buying children’s toys! Then we remembered our favorite nephew, so we snagged some safari finger puppets from Furnis, onesies from Two Owls’ own line, and a set of hand-carved wooden farm animals from German toy maker Oslheimer.

We promise to share.

904 in the 206

We’re every hairstylist’s worst nightmare. We have thick, curly, big hair, and we usually go for the two-toned full highlight. It only takes, oh, about four hours. We also salon hop—bouncing from stylist to stylist ’cause sometimes we just want to shop around. But when we find a place that does more than just highlights and has a great magazine collection? That’s “the one.”

Aside from hair, nails, skincare and waxing, Studio 904 does perms and tinting for (get ready for this) your eyelashes. Can you imagine waking up in the morning with flawlessly curled and clump-less lashes? It’s our new best-kept secret! And we’re always down to support companies that support good causes. Studio 904 packages your hair clippings and sends them off to "Matter of Trust." There, your hair is recycled into life-saving mats that absorb oil spills in the ocean.

Salon shopping is kind of like dating. But when you find the right fit, with all the right services, it’s easy to be in a committed relationship. Lucky for us this relationship is all about us being fabulous!

You Swirl Me Right Round Baby

Some things in life have perfect matches. Ken and Barbie. Silk and lingerie. Fridays and a glass—or two—of wine. It had been a “tough” week, and we were in desperate need of a good glass of Cabernet—stat.

Not wanting to fight the weekend crowd in Belltown, we decided to try out a neighborhood drinking hole, Swirl Wine Bar. The bartender greeted us with menus and ice water infused with lemon and cucumber—why didn’t we think of this combo? We selected a few glasses and watched as our wine was transformed. Okay, it was really just poured through a small contraption called an aerator. One sip and we knew why. The aerator, we were told, brings out the flavors of the wine. Whoever invented that magical device should get a promotion—and a big one! Swirl offers a happy hour, a menu full of tantalizing tastes, and winemakers often pop in to offer tastings.

We may have discovered a new Friday evening tradition. But, shhh! Don’t tell. We want to be able to get a seat next week.

Sweetest of Dreams

We tend to be troubled sleepers—between work stress, nights out with girlfriends, and dating troubles, we sometimes find it hard to drift off into La La Land—and counting sheep doesn’t help!

We’ve tried many a remedy, but have never found one as cute and calming as the Sleep Angels from La Pomme. These hand-embroidered dream dolls are filled with lavender from Provence—proven to quiet the mind. With our Sleep Angel by our side, it’s lights out for us!

A Little Ruching Goes a Long Way

We dream of the moment when we can put the Uggs in the back of the closet and exchange our jeans for flippy little skirts.

Being on a budget, and not wanting to look like every other girl out there, we shop at Ruche for sweet dresses and tops with vintage touches. They carry small boutique brands so not everyone else will have our same dress. Our next purchase is going to be this chiffon mini dress—don’t copy us!

Private Matters

Due to our indecision, we are totally unable to pack light. On our last trip, this led to having to bust open our suitcase in the middle of the airport to remove some weight. Fittingly, our unmentionables fell out for everyone to see.

Next time we’re putting them in the Privé Lingerie Bag from Urban Kitty. With one zipper pocket for “unworn” pairs, and one for the “worn” pairs, it’s beyond brilliant, and will save us some embarrassment next time we over-pack.
