April 17th, 2009
Last weekend our nephew had his very first Tee-Ball game, and as a devoted Auntie, we were there to cheer him on from the sidelines. It was one of the cutest things we’ve ever seen—total hilarity and chaos. After spending the rest of the day with the nephew and his baby sister, we were in a state of constant amazement over the amount of energy they have. Seriously, where does it come from?
At one point, our nephew inadvertently burped rather loudly into our face and it was at that very moment that we realized, despite loving our niece and nephew beyond measure, we are so not ready for parenthood. We love our mini-relatives, but we want to buy the new Prada bag—not a diaper bag. (At least, not yet.) However, we’re happy to cheer at Tee-Ball games, and our niece will definitely be getting those cute pink Uggs for babies soon! Hooray for Auntie. |

Good Boy!
We really love our puppy, and we admit, sometimes we treat him more like a tiny human than a dog. But who can resist those big sweet eyes, and that cute, squishy tail? And since Seattle is such a pup-friendly town, we take (wo)man’s best friend practically everywhere we go. But, lately we’ve been getting odd looks when we show up, with our pooch in tow, to places like the corner laundromat, the art museum, and the library. (Yes, we still check books out!)
We realized it was time for a reality check—not every human-purposed place is dog-friendly. Thank heavens for Fetch! This perfect little doggy day care and boarder is the ultimate in puppy summer camp (and what’s even better is that they’re open year-round). The dog-tastic atmosphere and the terrific staff really puts you at ease, so the separation anxiety is manageable (for our dog—not us—of course).
And when we went to pick up our furry friend, we could hardly pry him away from all the fun he was having with the other kids, er, dogs. Heh.

A Tale of Two Cities
Wouldn’t you love to be sitting at a sunny, sidewalk café in Paris ... sipping café au lait, watching the world go by and nibbling macaroons? Well, so would we, but it ain’t happening, sister!
Instead, we’ll sit beneath red market umbrellas, ensconced in comfy Adirondack chairs on the sidewalk outside Honoré Artisan Bakery in Ballard. Whilst (such a lovely word that makes us feel we belong across the pond) there, we will sip our lattés and bite into heavenly twice-baked almond chocolate croissants (a divinely evil invention—we are now addicts) or perhaps munch a salty-sweet Kouign Amann. Last visit we couldn’t resist picking up an assortment of Easter-colored macaroons. These are not the plebian coconut cookies you may be thinking of—they are French marvels of sweetness and light. Don’t miss the lavender or the coconut and salted caramel.
And if you’re just so over Paris, sample a scone (surprisingly crumbly and moist all at the same time) and imagine you’re out on the heath with the sheep—anywhere but here in the April rain!

Dress for the Good Life
Good things come in, no—not small packages—but pretty packages (unless it’s a diamond, in which case both apply). To us, clothing and fashion is art (or at least that’s how we justify spending so much of our livelihood on it, anyway), so of course our favorite boutiques think the same way.
Strolling down 1st Avenue the other day, we were reminded of this very fact when we stopped in for a visit at Karan Dannenberg. We were literally beckoned into the high-end retailer from her stunningly artful window displays—like two life-sized gift packages! From flirty cocktail wear you’d sport at a 5-star restaurant to regal professional wear we see women flaunting on the “Social Scene” page of “Seattle Magazine”—not to mention our favorite feminine accessories like cashmere gloves, dangly earrings and big tote bags—it felt like we were in a dressing room fit for the first lady. It’s that swank, seriously.
So we’ll channel our inner high-life diva, from Jackie-O to Michelle O, and bring the fashion to Seattle.

Wine Lover
We have such fond memories of the time we spent living in Tuscany during college. Especially that one weekend spent touring vineyards with Paolo—sipping wine, stomping grapes... and more. We’ve been wine lovers and firm believers in vino-therapy ever since.
So imagine our delight in finding the Chianti and Grape Seed Crush body scrub from Bella Lucce. Made with crushed grape seeds, olive oil and red wine, it polishes our skin to a rosy glow. Bellesima!

The Bigger the Better
We’re continually searching for the perfect slouchy bag—stylish, chic, roomy but not sloppy looking—but it has to be hold up and still be feminine at the same time. It’s a tall order, we know, so the Truffle bag from Morelle is our dream come true.
With its rich, soft, buttery leather and ruffles, and the amazing spring-y colors it comes in like pink, green and yellow, we know everyone is going to be trés jealous of our latest find.

Take Note
As editors and writers, not to mention consummate list-makers (seriously, our to-do lists are top notch and come in multiple categories), we naturally love our paper products and happen to have a profound love for Susy Jack notebooks.
They are colorful and bright with fun and stylish patterns, making them both useful and pretty—not to mention eco-friendly. We are actually searching for things to make lists about just so we can buy more of these lovely little notebooks.
