April 24th, 2009
We’ve been working on perfecting the fine art of hosting a tea party since we were old enough to pour imaginary tea for all of our closest stuffed-animal friends. So we should have known that when you want to attend the world’s most ladylike tea service, it would be at the Georgian Room at the Fairmont—and hosted by the extraordinarily chic Luly Yang.
We recently attended her second-annual fashion show (hosted during afternoon tea), and ladies, it was to die for. From the scones and chocolate caramel-kissed biscuits to the dazzling designs from her latest Pearl and Essence collection (we found our future wedding dress), we were left drooling over all of it. Inspired by waves and shells, in shades of coral, lavender, pink, champagne and pale blue, the dresses conjured images of summer weddings on a sprawling lawn, regal polo games and of course, high tea on a Sunday afternoon. You simply must attend next year—and don’t forget—keep your pinky up!
P.S. - All the talk of scones and chocolate biscuits making you hungry? Forward Seattle Picks to 5 or more friends and CC picks@SeattlePicks.com, and you could win one of two pairs of tickets to Urban Eats' Nosh-A-Thon Kick Off Event on April 25th to benefit FareStart and satisfy your craving for yummy food. |

Pure Fashion
We recently took one of those tests on Facebook (don’t judge—you know you’ve done it, too) to assess whether you are a true Seattleite or not, and not surprisingly, it came back “true Northwesterner.” Not that we weren’t proud or anything, but honestly, we don’t rock polar fleece or Tevas—and we aren’t that big on camping.
What we are big on, though, is chic, fashionable clothing that also happens to be organic and eco-friendly—not easy to come by! Unless you shop at the new Lizzie Parker eco-atelier in Gilman Village. Lizzie’s designs have long been available locally, but this weekend is the grand opening of her very own shop. In her bright, roomy store, you’ll find a whole collection of ultra-soft bamboo jersey in dozens of styles. We fell in love with the extra long t-shirts and racer-back tanks in colors like deep eggplant and marigold, the handbags from Clutch, and jewelry from Moon and Lola. We even found a tie-dye maxi dress for summer that can be worn multiple ways—pure genius.
If you only do one thing this weekend, check out the new Lizzie Parker store—she makes eco-friendly look gooood.

Walk This Way
We’ve been known to have a little swagger in our walk. We can thank “America’s Next Top Model” for the extensive education in runway and sidewalk sashaying—and now we can put this invaluable skill to use with hot new designer threads from Strut.
Strut in Belltown is bringing a little Las Vegas glitz and a little LA glamour to Seattle fashion enthusiasts with fun, colorful cocktail lines from Members Only (yes—they’re back, people!), Missfit and Chili Pepper. With walls adorned with celebrity gossip columns and snapshots, Strut is just as excited and obsessed with pop culture and fashion as we are—so much so that they exclusively feature Richard Blayne, from Seattle’s own “Project Runway” contestant, Blayne Walsh. Among the furry perfume bottles, dazzling chandeliers and trendiest of clothing and accessory trends, we felt like we were just where we wanted to be—swankin’ it up in Vegas, baby.
Strut is bringing exciting, sexpot trends (from funky to fabulous) from LaLa Land and Sin City designers, and we are ready to rock them. Now let’s see if they can bring us the heat!

Brighter Days
The calendar says it’s spring. Looking outside we aren’t so sure about it. The rain keeps coming down and sun is scarcely seen. What’s a girl to do? Great Aunt Sally always told us that spring was the time to start planning and planting. Granted, she lived on a farm and not in a studio apartment, but we’re desperate for anything that will remind us of warmer days.
So we took a trip to Urban Weeds where they have plants, seeds, flowers and adorable garden-inspired décor. Billed as a contemporary garden shop, we are in love with the unique, modish bird-feeders and plant orbs. And just being surrounded by blossoming flowers and bright green plants lifted our spirits. We even decided to take home a plant for our windowsill and started daydreaming about when we might actually have a patio so we can go back to buy more.
Aunt Sally would be so proud—and with the help of the folks at Urban Weeds, we’re pretty sure we can keep our new “roommate” alive. Probably.

Scent-sational
Having a signature scent that reminds people of you (and only you) when they smell it is one of those crucial style rules we follow religiously. But we don’t want our signature scent to be the same as someone else’s—the horror!
Enter top perfumer Le Labo—with ten exceptional fragrances, these exclusive scents are formulated by hand, on demand. You pick the perfume and name it (sweet) and they print the label with your scent and name, so it’s totally original. Mission accomplished.

No More Ms. Nice Girl
Our jewelry tastes run the gamut from colorful and oversized costume jewelry to a single simple strand of pearls—depending on our mood and outfit, of course. Recently, we bought the coolest rocker-chic vest from Nightcap Clothing, and it’s screaming for a piece of edgy jewelry (and tons of smoky kohl eyeliner).
Naturally we turned to Alex and Chloe for their mod-goth designs and found the Black Shell necklace from their new Tar Collection. Hello, perfect ensemble!
