On one of our recent shopping jaunts, we stumbled across a book called “The Love Letters of Great Men.” Sound familiar? Ok, so it was in the “Sex and the City” movie last year, but we swear that wasn’t the reason that we picked it up. As we browsed its pages, we found our recently-icy heart was melting. When you go through enough breakups, as we most certainly have, at some point you are going to wonder if there really is true love out there.
And what’s more, how come no one writes love letters like this these days? Signing a letter, “ever mine, ever thine, ever ours”? Swoon. It makes us wonder if love like that really even exists anymore. Is it just a thing of the past—that all encompassing, wildly passionate, can’t-possibly-live-without-one-another kind of love? How is a girl to know if she never gets a letter? Seriously, bring back the love letters, guys! It should be a requirement. Impossibly romantic, overly grandiose love letters for all!
p.s. Also romantic? Wonderfully lacy and sexy French lingerie! Forward Seattle Picks to 5 or more friends and CC picks@SeattlePicks.com, and you could win a gorgeous pair of French underpinnings from Panty by Post. |

In Camelot…
We love living in the city, but every now and then we want to break free from this wallet-busting hotspot for the country where things are simple and your money stays safely in your account. So we headed for Winslow on Bainbridge Island… but it may not have been the safest place for a shop-aholic that is trying to stay sober.
Especially once we found Kennedy and Kate. With French boudoir-inspired interior, washed with beachy white and antiqued mirrors, this little boutique is a far cry from small-town. They carry lines like Free People and J Brand Jeans, but they also have some obscure designers with fantastic price points. Our favorites were the handmade handbags from Fred & Bosha, but we were also drawn to the candles by Flare, milky green glassware, locally made jewelry, two-dollar bangles, and LA Made cotton clothing.
So if you are like us and decide to go to Bainbridge to get away from city spending, you might want to leave your credit card at home. But… we’ll just tell ya right now… you really shouldn’t.

Melt My Heart
Now that summer’s in full throttle, even the random cloudy day can’t hide our sunny disposition. We love the sights, sounds and flavors of summer. Speaking of which, we’re glad it’s finally warm enough to eat ice cream or have an iced latte without getting goose bumps. Rather, it’s that satisfying cool-down we’ve been hunting for on a lazy Saturday.
Thank goodness we found the new location of Old School Frozen Custard in Capitol Hill. One word: Yum. Well, maybe a few more words than that. Don’t even try to get your sweaty little hands on our melty, delicious cone of frozen custard. We know, we know—the egg yolks aren’t exactly as healthy as that broccoli salad we were supposed to eat for dinner, but two scoops of classic vanilla are just so much more satisfying. And if we waiver at the last minute, we can get something from the equally enticing Lunch Line menu instead! We promise to eat something green (albeit sprinkles, but they’re still green).
If you need us, we’ll be in line.

We Always Do!
Ever since we could reach the top of MeMaw’s dresser, every time we’ve gone to visit her house we’ve snuck off to the bedroom, quietly opened her jewelry box and admired her wedding pearls. It would be impossible to count the number of hours we’ve spent dreaming about meeting Mr. Right and our big day—which would of course include the pearls.
While we’ve got the jewelry picked out, the dress is another story—not to mention actually meeting the guy. Something beautiful, classic, elegant and totally original, but where to look? Enter Cicada. In a word, it’s magical. It’s every gal’s dream of a bridal shop. The walls are lined with handmade, original dresses in styles to fit every bride. The staff knows what styles and fabrics look best on different body types, and it gets even better—they make custom bridal dresses. It’s like a dream come true!
So when we finally meet that special guy and have the proper bling, we know exactly where we’re heading. Until that day comes, however, we’ll keep dreaming and visiting Cicada, cause a girl’s got to feed her imagination.

An Apple A Day
We don’t know how to pack light. We are physically incapable of it. We like being prepared for every possible option, so we bring everything and the kitchen sink. And nothing makes our indecision look better than Apple and Bee. We particularly love their Carry All Traveler—it’s the mother of all carry alls.
Made with organic cotton, bamboo silk and hemp, their bags are beautiful without harming the environment, and they have pouches, makeup bags, pencil cases and more. We love not having to choose.

Sleep Tight
We used to hate sharing our bed—we couldn’t get a wink of sleep with someone else crowding our space. Now that we’ve been attached for awhile, when the BF goes out of town, we’re sleepless. Figures. The scented pillow liners from Sleep Scentsations, however, are infused with essential oils and help us drift off to la-la-land.
We chose My Boyfriend’s Shirt with scents of musk and sandalwood, for sweet dreams until we had the real thing in back in bed with us—where he belongs.

Have Some Fun
Most of the time, we act like the adults that we are—including dressing and accessorizing appropriately, down to grown-up jewelry like pearls and understated pendants and hoop earrings. But being a grown-up all the time can get a little dull, so we keep it interesting with the quirky, funny, statement-making jewelry from Brookadelphia.
Our favorite is the Striped Tie Necklace, but all these laser cut designs are bright and cool—and keep us feeling young and hip.
