Has anyone else noticed that the rules of relationships have become infinitely more complicated since the birth of Facebook? As if we needed another thing to complicate our love lives. Now if you are in relationship and it falls apart, you have to change your relationship status on Facebook, and then everyone in the world sees your name next to a sad little broken-heart image, and before you know it, you are getting condolence comments from people you haven’t talked to since elementary school. Yeah, that’s not embarrassing.
And what about once you start dating again? Heaven forbid that you list yourself as being "in a relationship” before the guy you are seeing does – it could be disastrous! And let’s not even get started on after the break-up, when you remain “friends” with the ex on Facebook – it’s a thin line between stalker and pal. There’s trouble to be had when you start analyzing each new connection he makes, pictures he’s tagged in, and comments on his page. The horror! Someone should write a book about The Facebook Rules... and clue all us in. |

A River Runs Through It
This time of year always makes us want to bundle up, bury our noses in cozy sweaters, and pile on the scarves. But that doesn’t really leave much room for accessorizing an outfit! That is a scenario that certainly won’t stand, especially considering all the new trends in earrings and necklaces we’ve been waiting to indulge in this winter.
This is especially true when you lay eyes on the unique, Earth-inspired line of jewelry from River Song. Tucked away in the heart of Madison Valley, we found this precious treasure chest full of horticulture-reminiscent pieces fit for a queen. Each handmade piece spoke to us with its own story, and we found ourselves instantly pairing outfits to our faves. Two definite contenders for this year’s Christmas wish list are the Peruvian Opal and topaz tambourine necklace (seriously, this goes with all our outfits!) and the smooth red coral with Labradorite and tiny Thai-silver fringe earrings.
The rule is: remove one accessory before leaving the house. In this case, we say pile one more on!

Shoot the Whole Day Down
We’ve been eyeing a new pair of boots (who hasn’t?) so we’ve had to tighten the patent belt a bit lately. We’re brown-bagging it for lunch, cutting down on dining out and starting each morning with a bowl of Cheerios and a travel mug of homebrewed drip. But Mondays ... Mondays are a different story. They’re our “cheat days.”
When that alarm clock rips us from our weekend reverie, we need a little treat to kickstart the week. Unfortunately, almost all of our favorite pastry shops are closed on Mondays (a conspiracy, we’re sure of it). But now Three Girls Bakery has opened an outpost in Ballard and we say, “Halleluiah!” And so do our coworkers. We are so much less grumpy now that we can enjoy a nice latte and Grandma Levy’s potato cheese boreka (try it heated—it’s savory goodness with a touch of love). And where else can you find a decent Rugula in Ballard?
Next week we’re bringing in pain au chocolate for the whole office. Monday will not break us—and Three Girls won’t bust our boot budget!

Namesake
Why couldn’t our parents have named us something more regal and Hollywood-chic? Okay, not like those awful celebrity baby names like Apple, Jermajesty and Rumer, but we’d take a high-fashion designer’s name any day! They’re always elegant, with a sophisticated sound to it… i.e. Coco, Stella, Donna… or even a designer consignment store name, especially when it’s something swanky like Alexandra’s!
Alexandra’s is a consignment clothing boutique with an emphasis on the label names we love, like Valentino, Chanel, Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, and many more! Their selection ranges from super-exclusive vintage pieces to modern, casual wear and a wide selection of shoes and fun jewelry—think bobble necklaces, chunky, ornamental pendants, and classic, old-school, clip-on carnival-glass earrings. Our favorite find: a vintage Chanel coral tweed dress suit with the tag in French (oui, oui!).
Designer clothing and accessories, all at 70–90% off retail… that’s a deal that has a nice ring to it. … unlike, say, Fifi Trixibelle.

Viva la Cupcake!
People like to say that the cupcake’s 15 minutes of fame are up, but we refuse to say die. How can people resist a personal-sized cake? We have no defenses when it comes to these treats.
We want to openly display our love of cupcakes, and that’s where Whitney Smith Pottery comes in. We are dying over her cutesy, wheel-thrown cupcake stands with the bell-jar tops. They are beautifully functional, and with just enough room for one cupcake, so we can (hopefully) keep our intake down.

I Like to Move it, Move it
They say true Seattleites don’t carry umbrellas. To that we say: Pfff! We were born and raised in the rainy city, and we carry an umbrella and wear rain boots. No sense in getting cold and wet for pride’s sake.
Our new favorite rain boots are the ones from Moov Boots. Wellington’s on the outside for the rain and puddles, and 100% sheepskin on the inside to keep your toes toasty warm, these brightly colored boots in adorable patterns are made for splashing through puddles.

Oh, Canada!
We are suckers for anything with ruffles—probably the remains of our fierce love for tutu skirts as little girls—we refused to wear anything else for months on end.
These days our ruffle-love is a little more grown-up, but when we saw this coat from Canadian designer Stacey Zhang, we had the old familiar feeling—we didn’t want to wear anything else for a while! It’s modern and classic at the same time, just like the rest of her to-die-for collection. She has more ruffles, too… swoon!
