Have you heard of The Salon of Shame? If the answer is no, please Google it immediately. This week we had the immense pleasure of attending, and it was seriously one of the best nights we have had out in a long time. People read from their adolescent writings—poems, diary entries, short stories—the most embarrassing stuff you can think of. The results were high-larious, and totally cringe-worthy in the best kind of way. If we didn’t have a serious fear of public speaking, we would totally get up there and share our secret adolescent musings.

In fact, it inspired us to dig out our old stuff, and we found diaries from as far back as third grade—and apparently we were boy-crazy from a very early age. But one of our best friends had the most awesome diary entry that she was kind enough to share with us. In fifth grade, she literally started a diary entry with: “Dear Diary, it’s been a Step-By-Step kind of day.” As in the TV show. With Suzanne Somers. From the 90s. Love it. Bring on the shame!

Take Care, You

We recently ran our first half-marathon. Yes, we realize we’re a little crazy, but hey, we did it. It wasn’t an Olympic record or anything—in fact, we were pretty far down in our age bracket, but we can’t help but brag a little. Anyway, we’re proud of ourselves, but one thing we’re not so proud of? The state of our feet.

With sandal season already here, and months of hard-core training behind us, we decided we needed a little pampering… ok, maybe a lot… which is why we headed to Hoa salon for a post-race mani-pedi. Ahhhh, heaven. Even after countless miles in running shoes our feet have never looked—or felt—better. Plus, unlike some of those “other” salons, this one doesn’t reek of nail polish and other chemicals when you walk in.  In fact, it’s soothing. Of course the massage chairs always help, but the most luxurious part was the unhurried pace at which our nail technician went about her art.

It’s all about quality—quality relaxation and quality pampering. Plus they have a private room for parties, who doesn’t love that?

Carrots Sticks Be Gone

We like to consider weekend brunch as our reward for all those back-breaking torturous workouts during the week. Plus, a little bit of indulgence makes it easier to crunch away on carrot sticks instead of chips and salsa.

Tummies audibly grumbling, we made our way to Louisa’s Café and Bakery on Eastlake. It’s the opposite of a greasy spoon, which we didn’t mind in college but really, who likes dirty restaurants?  They bake dozens of mouthwatering pastries daily, and on Saturdays, pecan cinnamon rolls to-die-for. Louisa’s suggestion to order one while we waited for brunch was brilliant—not too doughy, golden brown, and the perfect amount of scrumptious frosting and caramelized pecans.  We were saved the embarrassment of being caught licking frosting off our plate by the arrival of our Eggs Benedict (phew!), which was everything it should be: lemony hollandaise sauce, crispy layers of ham, and even a freshly sliced tomato to make us feel a little healthy.

Louisa’s also serves lunch, dinner and Happy Hour with half-off bottles of wine on Wednesdays and Fridays. And now, for that post-brunch nap…

Olive You

Some days we like to—no, we need to—get all dolled up. Sometimes that means we need double-sided tape and impossibly high heels, other times it means just getting the iron out. But the one thing we want every day is to look and feel fabulous. Because, honey, life is too short to feel anything else.

Olive boutique lets us have our cake and eat it, too. This shop is filled to the brim with pieces that are fashionable, fit right, and feel good. Not to mention they won’t break the bank. Olive provides everything from our Hanky Panky’s and slinky little tops to business casual and comfy tees. We’re going to top that off with Butter nail polish, a statement necklace, and bam! Seattle won’t have time to blink an eye before we knock them out with our ridiculously good-looking selves. As if that’s not fun enough, we plan to invite our besties to Olive’s signature Girls’ Night Out and have the place to ourselves so we can shop and gossip as loudly as we darn well please.

We think we’re going to need an extra olive in our martini… and inour shopping bags.

Parlez-vous Rachel Zoe?

Rachel Zoe kills it. We covet her talent, closet, connections, catchphrases, and most of all, her style. She could pull off an animal-print poncho with metallic leggings without looking like a cast member of Jersey Shore—it’s bananas.

Now, a popular store is giving wannabe stylists the opportunity to work alongside her. (We die.) Enter the contest by using the virtual styling tool at Polyvore.com and you could you literally end up styling a celebrity!

A Little Laundry Love

Ironing is so not our favorite chore, but nothing makes us looks so sad and sloppy than crinkled clothing.  Hmm, that may explain why we never did get into that grunge look… but we digress.

To lift our mood while we press our button-downs, we’re dressing up our ironing board with some fabulous fabric covers made by a mom-and-daughter team who combine style and sensibility across an array of shabby-chic accessories.

Pretty Pouch

We love to organize things—especially when it means getting lots of cute things to help everything look neat and tidy. From pouches and pockets to folders, boxes and bags, we can find a use for it all!

Our latest pretty finds are the little zipper pouches from Jlife. In fun, bright colors and patterns, we are already planning their uses for makeup essentials in our purse, or coins. Maybe for our medicine bottles when we travel. The possibilities are endless!
