May 7, 2010
We have a new addiction to add to our ever-growing list. We’re already addicted to shopping, Red Mango frozen yogurt, bad reality television on MTV (and yes, we know we’re too old for MTV, but it has a hold on us!), buying more books to read (even though the pile on our nightstand is currently up to 15), and of course, fashion magazines and lip gloss.
We didn’t think we had time for another addiction, but we’ve managed to fit one more in. We are currently huge blog fiends. We have a list of blogs a mile long that we regularly follow and check daily. It takes us at least an hour every day to wade through the latest blog news—from friends’ weddings and kid blogs to design, fashion and photography blogs—and let’s not forget the cooking blogs. We just can’t get enough. The blogs are taking over our lives! But at least we are gathering lots of great ideas, tips and pretty pictures and inspirations. And if you ever need a blogommendation, you know who to ask! |

Spring Fling
They say April showers bring May flowers, but with all this crazy weather going on recently we’re not sure what to predict anymore. Eh, whatevs—it’s no big deal—because we can be sure our spring will be full with all the flora goodness that we love to give and get!
Fleurt is the newest storefront to open on the trendy California Avenue strip in West Seattle. With quirky vintage French accordion music playing in the backdrop, air plants in bubble vases hung about, freshly picked flowers in tin buckets and cozy wooden beams and countertops made from reclaimed wood, we felt like we had just walked into a the world’s cutest cottage. We picked some posies (from a wide variety of local growers) and browsed the collection of goodies. Every gift (pillows, soaps, candles, and more) is unified with a botanical theme. Our favorites are the living terrarium necklaces—they give a whole new meaning to green fashion.
We don’t really have green thumb, so thanks to the lovelies at Fleurt, we’ve got spring covered.

Never Go Without
Why do we always seem to forget two or three things on our grocery list? It’s 10 pm on a Thursday and the idea of schlepping back to QFC sounds like serious torture. On the other hand, going without toothpaste or Cheetos for another night is not an option.
Say hello to Snacks in Ballard. It’s an old-fashioned hipster form of a Quick Mart but much more fun. The bales of hay and jugs of cider at the front entrance definitely give it a kind of general-store-Laura-Ingalls feel. But we don’t think Ma and Pa could have purchased a six pack of microbrews or Pepto Bismol way back when. We found our tube of toothpaste and Cheetos as well as a container of Molly Moons ice cream. And temptingly, Snacks’ wine selection was most intriguing, as was their quirky collection of t-shirts. We picture ourselves making a late-night visit after a show at the Tractor. … Did we mention they sell piping hot Dante Inferno dogs and are open until 2:30 am on weekends?
Happy sigh. We’ll never be without Snacks again.

Paint Your Wagon
There’s a tiny part of our psyche that has never grown up; we still get a thrill from squeezing stuffed animals, imagining magical worlds, and playing dress up. It’s something we have accepted. (There’s something freeing about feeling young at heart… it’s not like we’re riding tricycles to work or anything. Jeeze.)
Anyhoo, we recently noticed a new resident on the main drag of Madison Park: Red Wagon Toys. And we weren’t exactly thinking of our nieces and nephews when we decided to peek inside this darling toy heaven. The white-painted shelves beckon little princesses with beautifully illustrated fairytale books, and the stuffed bears will pull at anyone’s heartstrings. Add in a special dress-up nook—complete with everything from fairy wings to swords and armor—and it’s like a wonderland for wee ones.
Red Wagon has us wishing it was cool to play with dolls at our “advanced” age. But no worries—we’ll just “pretend” we have more nieces and nephews… and go back as often as we like to indulge in the wonder of it all.

Right On
Our accessory obsession knows no bounds—we have rings for every finger—and all of our neighbors’ fingers—but we still find ourselves falling in love with new pieces.
Happily, Manic Trout has pretty little baubles for next to nothing, so we can load up on fun costume jewelry without breaking the piggy bank open. This “Lauren” Zsa Zsa Bling Ring is our new favorite—the color, the casual setting, the $25 price—it’s all so right!

Spring’s Powers
Something about spring makes us want to show our flirtatious side. Chalk it up to our romantic sundresses or bicep-baring guys seen basking in the sun on bar patios and parks.
Of course, with slip dresses and potential hotties on the scene, we need to ditch the granny panties pronto. Our go-to underthings: Hanky Panky’s cute and comfy lacy numbers. Find them at a variety of metro shops, such as Martin’s and Flirt Boutique.
