Summer means Farmer’s Markets—one of our favorite sunny-day activities. Sure, we hit them up in the fall and spring, but it’s not as much fun to peruse the produce when the rain is pouring down.
Last week we headed to the up and coming Georgetown neighborhood to check out their new farmer’s market (and flea market) and were delighted to find a wealth of local artisans and foods that we haven’t seen anywhere else.
Like the lady who repurposes vintage glasses by creating one-of-a-kind soy candles, and the lady making mouth-wateringly delicious Ebelskivvers, and the guy with the homemade caramels. We also found a stand filled with hats of all kinds—we picked out a floppy, large-brimmed number for the beach, and an ultra-hip fedora for a night on the town. Even the Pug got something: all natural, locally-made doggie treats. Our suggestion? Check it out for yourself! |

The Girl from Eastlake
Tall and tan, and young and lovely? Yup, that’s us. Ok, ok, this is Seattle, so we suppose we’ll settle for just young and lovely. But we’re still just as fashionably adorned as the “Girl from Ipanema,” and with so many sweet new micro-neighborhoods in town, we have even more streets to strut our sexy stuff… which means we need a hot-spot to stock up on pretty little fashion pieces...
So we peeked into hot and trendy Eastlake and found Bagunca Boutique. Named for the Portuguese word for “hot mess,” the threads inside are definitely hot—but not even close to messy. As the all-women’s neighbor to Jaxx Boutik, Bagunca carries Michael Stars, Alice + Olivia, Trina Turk, Cosabella, Free People, and other designers that give Rio a run for its money. And if you bring your man, he can head next door to Jaxx for the big-screen sports on TV. (Bonus: maybe he’ll pick out something he likes!)
Ready to rumba at Bagunca? Keep an eye out for us—we’ll be doing the conga in the denim section.

Just Flow with It
Of all the neighborhoods in Seattle, Queen Anne is one of our favorites. There’s something about walking down the Avenue and allowing your eyes to feast on restaurants, bars, boutiques, yoga studios, spas and all sorts of fun stuff that makes our souls yen to live there. We’d love a house on top of the hill (right around Kerry Park would be good)… but, dreams aside, we visit whenever we can, which is pretty often.
So we’ve had our eyes on the corner spot across the street from Café Ladro for a few months, wondering what was going to pop up, and then Flow opened its doors! It’s a cocktail lounge, and it is perfection. The décor practically hums with warm jewel-tones contrasted with dark woods and clean lines. Flow’s delicious list of hand-mixed libations draws from their full bar (try the Pear Martini—absolute heaven), and there’s also wine and beer if you’re so inclined.
They also have a great Happy Hour, with amazing prices. Who wants grilled wild salmon for just $12? We do! We do!

One-Stop Shopping
Saying we are busy would be an understatement. Even lying in bed at night, our mind is planning, plotting, and working things out, going a million miles an hour. We are lucky sometimes if we can sneak away for an afternoon latté, let alone a lunchtime shopping trip. (If only we could be paid to shop!)
That is why Sasquatch Studios is such a gem. It truly has a treasure for everyone on your list, so in one swoop you can get a birthday present for Mom, a wedding present for the Bestie, and a baby shower gift for the mamma-to-be. There is amazing jewelry, local art, fun handmade pillows, and amazing photography (shot by the owner herself) in unique frames. There’s even a cute little nook in the back that’s full of one-of–a-kind vintage clothes. One caveat: Although you may save time by one-stop shopping, don’t expect to be in and out. We found ourselves spending over an hour looking in every corner, and ended up walking out with three bags of goodies.
And here’s the best part: Mention Seattle Picks and receive 10% off of any item!

On a High Note
We recently stumbled upon a box of letters sent by a friend when she was studying abroad in France, and the weathered envelopes emblazoned with foreign stamps and filled with loopy cursive writing (remember handwriting?) gave us a yen for the personal touches of pre-emailing days. So weren’t we delighted to find Apiary Design!
This chic local paper purveyor offers up a stylish assortment of note cards, stationery and calendars that are adorned with punchy, eye-pleasing prints and colors. We like!

To Your Health
Veggies and fruits might not measure up to cake and cookies, but we try hard to get in the recommended daily dose. And now there's a new way to make sure you're getting your "servings"... Produce Organic Beauty’s fresh-picked line of tasty products.
Sure, skincare isn’t a substitute for healthy eating, but Apple Kiwi Eye Cream and Pomegranate Grapefruit Lip Balm make us feel good on the days when we’ve been remiss. And isn’t that healthy in itself?

A Rebel with a Cause
Every hipster’s wardrobe is based on vintage tees with funky sayings, something former American Eagle graphic designer, Shea Mullen, knew inside and out. But while populating the Prep Nation with uniformity for corporate profit, she saw all take and no give.
So Mullen set out to license images from real charity fundraisers from decades past, print ’em onto super-soft cotton tees, and pass on a percentage of the proceeds to various charities, thus founding Give and Take Tees. Very cool.
