life + style to you:

June 25, 2010
That’s it, we’ve had it, we can’t take one more single day of these gray skies and the blasted rain showers. We can hardly bear to talk about it anymore. It’s almost July, and we can’t remember such a miserable start to summer in our lives. We are so unbelievably over you, June-uary, and to be quite honest, we were never that into you anyway. So here is our short and sweet message to you—shape up or ship out!
We aren’t above threats, we will move to sunnier pastures if we must. We will cash in our savings account and book a ticket to the Caribbean, Hawaii or Fiji. And then, we might just forget to make our plane back home. Capisce? Good. Now tell the sun he can start tomorrow—bright and early. |

A Girl’s Best Friend
Chocolate and shoes go hand in hand (it’s true!), and are quite arguably two of the most important things to every woman. They have been there to pull us out of every bad breakup. They have been there to celebrate a brand new job, or even just to celebrate a good day amongst girlfriends. We say, time to add shoes and chocolates to the list of a Girl’s Best Friends—right along with diamonds.
And now, thanks to the genius that is Chocolate Shoebox, you can get chocolate and shoes in the same shop. Brilliant, yes? And, as if that weren’t enough, for us green gals who are eco-friendly, everything in the shop is vegan. Now, before you start thinking about Birkenstocks, we are here to tell you that these vegan shoes are cute, strappy, stylish, and just happen to be leather-free. There are colorful heels, embellished flats… and even a shoe or two in chocolate form. And the chocolate confections are absolutely mouth-watering.
Chocolate and shoes under the same roof… some may call this heaven, we just call it common sense.

Single, Sexy and Free
Okay, we’re gonna be straight up and spill our guts. We’ve just become the Single Society’s most recent member. And we’re actually really excited about it. No—seriously, you know those kind of break-ups that feel like you’ve just been set free, and you can’t wait to live a fabulously fun, independent woman kinda life? Well, that’s us. We are feelin’ it, and just in time for summer. After we get our picnic on, we’ll hit the town for some celebration.
So where do we go to get our groove back? Amber Lounge and Restaurant in Belltown. It’s one of Seattle’s most popular spots for fine dining, happy hour, and mingling, but laid-back, in true Seattle form. High ceilings with oak beams give it a cozy, “weekend-in-Whistler” kind of feel. Delicious eats, cocktails galore, DJs, and fun themed events (from fashion shows to fundraisers, where Seattle celebs like the Mariners, Sounders and Seahawks and seriously big-deal celebs—ahem, Rihanna—are known to stop by on occasion), make Amber an ideal New-Singleton Destination.
Summer nights at Amber. We can feel the hotness already.

Free-Wheelin’ Femme
Riding on the back of a motorcycle, wind in our hair, a little giddy from the speed, what’s not to love about a boy and his bike? While he does all the work, we get to have a heck of a good time! Which tends to work out well, since our bike (the non-motoring kind) still has its training wheels.
Luckily, Hub and Bespoke is giving us every reason to stop making excuses and get out on the open road. This brand-new boutique in Fremont offers everything a city gal like us could want in order to look good on a bicycle. All of the clothing is carefully designed to be comfortable and functional, but super cute at the same time. The helmets aren’t dorky at all, and a basket will make it easy to stash our oversized purse during the ride. We even picked up a flower to decorate the handlebars.
Maybe next year we’ll have chalked up enough biking experience to do the Fremont Solstice bike ride. Maybe.

A Shower of Sweetness
We have sensitive skin (no perfume, cologne, chlorine, cleaning products), and it makes everyday life a bit of a challenge. Even taking a bath requires a major investigation into ingredients.
Happily, locally made bath and beauty products by Scrumptious Suds are gentle enough to indulge in. We especially love their “Southern Strawberry Shortcake” soap, with cornmeal and ground strawberry seeds to exfoliate. They’re a revelation for the product-challenged, and for “everyone else,” they’re just plain wonderful.

That Personal Touch
You know how we feel about hand-written notes—we can’t imagine why our mailbox isn’t full of them. “Thank you for dinner,” “thanks for coming to my birthday party,” “congratulations on buying those cute shoes” … so many reasons to put pen to paper!
Lindsey Noel’s array of delectable (and local) note cards has us ready to write. They’re so adorable and feminine, and the perfect way to say, “I’m taking the time to drop you a line.”

Funky Flair
We are usually pretty classic in our fashion style, but we’ve learned that a bright and bold accessory can keep classic from looking too plain, too dull or too ordinary. The necklaces from Elva Fields are just that—bright, bold and beautiful.
With feminine touches and glittering adornments, these re-purposed vintage necklaces, sourced from flea markets and antique stores around the world, are simply perfection. We want every single one—baubles are our weakness!

The genius chefs and bartenders at Tulio have done it again—they continue to lure us back with their tasty treats, day after day. The latest is a menu of creations known as Dessert for Grown-Ups—completely brilliant and completely delicious. Our favorite is the Prosecco Float. We can’t think of a more fitting summer dessert and cocktail in one!
