Confession time: sometimes we get a little obsessive. At least we can admit it, right? The object of our newest obsession may be our weirdest one yet… banana clips. The other day while stopped at a stoplight, banana clips randomly popped into our head and since then we can’t stop thinking (or talking) about them.

As the thought has fermented in our brain, we have slowly convinced ourselves that banana clips may be the greatest hair invention ever. Yeah, we know—crazy. (But we have to admit: our permed hair and sky-high bangs looked totally tubular in those suckers.) Our friends are not exactly on board with our newfound love, but we’re not totally alone. There are YouTube videos and website pages devoted to the old ’80s favorite—yeah, we looked. We may just have to buy one to curb our obsession (and maybe wear around the house once in a while). Totally bitchin.

Timeless with a Twist

Audrey Hepburn, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (sans crust), Little Women—those are just some of the timeless classics we still love. Day after day, year after year, they treat us pretty darn well. So why can’t we get some of that classic goodness in our closet? Finding the perfect timeless, vintage pieces can be difficult at best. We don’t have time to pick through the heaps and piles at Goodwill (aside from the Glitter Gala—already counting the days!).

Right thump in the middle of Capitol Hill the owners of Vu have brought us a streamlined source of vintage beauties. This time they have really taken our needs to heart, because each piece is altered so it fits like it’s 2010. That way we look hot-retro, not Grandma-retro, and this is oh-so-important. We found everything we need, including shoes, hats, sunglasses, jewelry, and the piece de resistance, the one-of-a-kind dress. Not to mention we had the best time being creative and trying everything on.

Vutique—another timeless classic to add to our list!

The Pause that Refreshes

We hate spending too much time out of town when it’s finally nice here in Seattle, but we decided we needed a little break from the hustle and bustle. A quick getaway to the Olympic Peninsula (and some hiking through lush trails in the rainforest) sounded like the ultimate way to decompress. So we packed our bags and headed out to explore a brand-new destination, Lake Quinault Resort.

The full beauty of this place didn’t hit us until the next morning as the sun came up over waters of Lake Quinault—absolutely stunning. Then we spent the day exploring the resort’s lush surroundings—we even found secret stairways down to the lake. The only way to top it off? With a refreshing evening dip. (Heaven!) Oh, and gorging on the salmon we grilled right by our bungalow. All we needed to make it a perfect day was a good book and a full moon. Done and done.

We can barely believe that Lake Quinault Resort is real. We didn’t even miss the city!

Eat Dessert First

There must have been something in the air last week, because we were all about sweets. Everywhere we went we had honey and sugar on the brain. It didn’t matter what we were doing—shopping, working, hanging out with friends—we couldn’t kick the craving for sweetness that would melt in our mouth. Something had to be done.

Thankfully, 60th Street Desserts came to the rescue to satisfy our confection craze. We stopped in telling ourselves we’d get just a single tasty treat, but when we were faced with the sugar trifecta of cake, cookies and lemon bars, willpower went out the window. We considered ordering one of everything, but soon remembered we’d missed lunch for a killer shoe sale near the office—that must be why our stomach was doing somersaults. Lucky for us, 60th Street also offers quiche, salads, sandwiches and soup to balance out the sugar.

We ordered a late lunch, and indulged in chocolaty goodness. Craving satisfied—for now. But when it comes back, we know where to go.

Puppy Pampering

We are all about organic when it comes to our food, cleaning products, even makeup—so when we buy products for our “best friend” it’s natural or nothing. That’s why we love DERMagic—they have some of the best organic doggie skin and coat care out there.

Their new Lemongrass Spearmint Skin Rescue Shampoo Bar helps heal hot spots, mange, and other skin ailments—so that means sweet relief for Fido, and his mommy!

TOE-tally Crazy!

From the news to celebs to our hottie neighbor, everywhere we turn we see someone sporting FiveFingers “shoes” from Vibram. They remind us of the toe-socks we had as a kid—thanks grandma.

Apparently, they are a kind of like a glove for your toes that is supposed to mimic what it feels like to run barefoot. We’re not much for running—especially barefoot—but this funky footwear makes us want to try it out.

How Art Thou?

Since we bought a condo a few months ago, we have been on the hunt for grown-up art to fill our new grown-up space. Our budget, however, has not grown as quickly as our taste—does it ever?

During our search we stumbled upon Megan Noel. Her one-of-a-kind watercolors mix whimsy and fantasy with the right amount of sophistication. The best part? The price is right! We found the perfect piece for our new digs.
